Diver, Gelatin silver prints toned with copper, 16 x 16 inches
Glimpses of the male figure are printed as gelatin silver photographs and toned with copper. I considered copper’s role in the transmission of energy and the connotation of the male figure depicted in hues of pink and red. I believe our society has summoned a re-examination and reconstruction of gender roles in relationship to leadership and power. The title signifies descending, as if one retreated momentarily to then emerge reformed. In Diver, I imagine we are in a gestation period for a new male role in society: one that exposes and collapses the destructive nature of the hyper-masculine that has been long withstanding.
